The Returned Playbook

Everyone on a team has a role. Your role was the one who died. Your team buried you, mourned you, and were inspired by your memory.

But now you’re back. And things have changed.

Haunted, memorialized, uncanny, driven. The returned was a member of a team of young heroes, until they were killed in action. Now, months or even years later, they are back—through magic or technology, a fluke in reality or a supervillainous plot. The Returned might have been any type of hero before they died, but after they died they grew in memory—“the best of us.”

The Returned can be used in character creation to make a character or a new playbook for an old character who died, such as a Doomed who has confronted their Doom and perished.

The Returned is inspired by teen characters who were killed off and returned, such as Batman's Jason Todd, the New Mutants' Cypher and Magik, and the Runaways' Gertrude Yorkes.
